Addendum 1: My first thought is strategic and a national security argument. I thought the general strategic direction for the United States is to develop its own energy sources with less international outsourcing.

But still where will any excess market product call home? Will be adding to our stockpiles or Canada's? What is Canadian policy on international trading? There must be policies somewhere governing all this political stuff but it makes me convinced that the local politicians are either selling the public short on their decision-making analysis or they didn't look into the whole big picture.
