JBS SWIFT DONATES TWENTY GRAND

I went looking on Opensecret.org this afternoon for general information.

I thought it interesting the variance in donations to specific District 06 Candidates for the 2010 election cycle. Note the * means that Mike Coffman is the incumbent.

District 06 Mike Coffman (R) *
John Flerlage (D)
David Canter (D)
$176,235
$21,733
$16,626

The following are contributions already coming in for the 2010 election cycle. I thought it interesting the high ranking of JBS Swift in this table. These are top donors from Colorado.

"Based on Federal Election Commission data available electronically on June 29, 2009.

"Top contributors" shows the biggest contributors giving PAC and individual donations to federal candidates and parties in this state. The contributions came not from the organization itself, but from its PAC, its individual members, owners, or employees, and those individuals' immediate families.

Totals listed under "top contributors" show only those dollars raised by federal candidates and parties within this state. They do not necessarily represent the total for the organization nationwide - nor are the contributors necessarily based inside the state itself.
TOTAL INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS FROM STATE DONORS, 2009-2010
Type of Donation Total Dems Repubs Dem % Repub %
Individual Donations to PACs $590,144 - -

This chart shows how much PACs and large individual donors have given from the state so far in the 2009-2010 election cycle.

* "Individual Donations to PACs" shows the total given by individual donors to federal political action committees (PACs)

* "Individual Donations to Candidates" shows how much was given by individuals to federal candidates

I must give you credit Jane. Your digging and writing is enjoyable to read. As per one of our discussions I realize this is a concern for not only us but all Americans who vote, wan't change in buisness as usual, or feel disenfranchised. When one see's the rather large numbers of dollar's coupled with one after the other after the other the scene becomes quite clear in what we as voters in America are competeing with. Pac or no pac it seem's more than just a bit unfair does it not? From the 5 digits to the 6 digits it is a jilt to those who expect the system to work in the intrest of all who paricipate. For those who tell others to keep there faith in the voting process it not only looks more then hopeless it may be viewed as conspiratorial.
Keep up the work Jane you seem rather good at it.

Well thanks Mowdy. I appreciate it. I'l like to get some of the others reading posting too. That would be good. Then we could get some good well rounded debates going. For me it is about raising the level of debate. I learn as I go. I like that. As for the Swift donation we still have to be careful about making assumptions. It doesn't say who specifically made those donations. It could be employees donating to a PAC committee that is pro labor (unions). I know if I were a Swift employee my extra ten cents a month would be going to the Union. It could also be managers donating. I know of other companies that give their employees a $2500 raise with a "not so tacit" agreement that $1500 will go to the company's political PAC. JBS, the company, might also donate to the other side of labor issues (nonunion). All we know is that 20,000 is recorded from JBS. The site might have more breakdowns. I haven't looked that far yet. I'll do more digging before the next election comes up. There are limitations on what a company can donate directly and limitations on individuals. I like digging but I also believe in staying on the high road and playing fair. Thanks for the kudos though--they are always welcome!
